What is Traditional Chinese Medicine?
Traditional Chinese Medicine is a system of medicine that has been around for 2,000+ years and may includes the use of acupuncture, herbal therapy, cupping, guasha, food therapy, ear seeds, moxa, and more.
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is just one part of traditional Chinese medicine. Acupuncture is the insertion of single-use sterile needles into various acupuncture points across the body.
How does Acupuncture work?
The insertion of acupuncture needles creates a micro-trauma which triggers an immune reaction. Fresh blood is then sent to the area to help heal that micro-trauma. Acupuncture activates our parasympathetic nervous system (or our rest-digest system). When we are in fight or flight mode, we have a harder time healing both physically and emotionally, because our body is so focused on fighting off this perceived threat. The body has an innate ability to heal itself and acupuncture helps stimulate the body’s natural healing response to get us back to our homeostasis.
How does Cosmetic Acupuncture work?
Cosmetic acupuncture works in the same way traditional acupuncture does. The needles are inserted into various acupuncture points in the face and body. The micro-trauma the needle creates stimulates your body’s natural healing process. Fresh blood cells are sent to this area which stimulates the production of collagen. This approaches beauty from the inside out and benefits the skin by working on internal imbalances. With cosmetic acupuncture, we are always looking at the whole picture and treating the root cause of the skin concern. Cosmetic acupuncture is a natural and effective way to help treat acne, lift and tighten the skin, especially on the neck, cheeks and eyelids, reduce swelling/puffiness, and give the face an overall glow. Cosmetic acupuncture is also effective in treating fine lines and wrinkles. Best results are seen from 1-2 treatments a week, for 5 to 10 weeks (for a total of 10 treatments) then once monthly for maintenance.
What is Microneedling? How does it work?
Microneedling is the use of very small, single-use sterile needles to puncture the skin for facial rejuvenation. At Azalea, we use high-quality and mindfully crafted Chinese herbal serums with our microneedling treatments. When used with microneedling, the absorption of these products increases by 3000%. Our microneedling technique is rooted in traditional Chinese medicine and is a natural way to stimulate collagen production and improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, skin texture, age spots, scars and more. Best results are seen from 1 treatment a month, for 4-6 months. Research shows that these results last for 4-6 years without any maintenance.
What can Acupuncture treat?
Acupuncture can help treat a myriad of conditions including, but not limited to, pain (neck, back, body, etc), headaches, allergies, stress, symptoms of anxiety and depression, insomnia, digestive issues, coughs, colds, and flu-like symptoms, pediatric and geriatric health concerns, OBGYN health concerns, skin concerns like acne, scars, and fine lines, and more.
Does it hurt?
No, acupuncture does not hurt. You may feel a slight pinch as the needle is inserted but oftentimes patients do not feel anything at all. You may feel a dull achey sensation after the needle is inserted, this is also normal and is to be expected.
When will I see results?
It depends on what you are being seen for. Almost everyone leaves the clinic feeling better than when they came in. For facial acupuncture, patients typically see the best results if they come in twice a week for 5 weeks (or once a week for 10 weeks). Most people report that they notice a difference in their skin after about the 4th treatment. As for non-cosmetic acupuncture/TCM appointments, we work with our patients to see how many treatments they are going to need to feel better. There is generally an acute stage to the health issue, where we will have patients come in once or twice a week for a few weeks. Then once the patient starts feeling better, the patient will come in about once a month for maintenance. This is all very dependent on the patient’s current state of health and what they are coming in for. We get a better idea of how long it is going to take after the first few appointments.
Is there anything else I should know before my appointment?
Yes- you should wear comfortable clothing with sleeves that can be rolled up to your elbows and pants that can be rolled up to your knees (comfortably). Make sure you aren’t hungry when you come in- patients will usually have a small snack prior to their appointment. And make sure you are properly hydrated before and after your appointment!
If you are coming in for microneedling or cosmetic acupuncture, please come without face makeup on.
Do you take insurance?
No, we do not take insurance. However, we can provide you with a superbill for you to submit to your insurance. Additionally, we can take HSA/FSA.
How is payment processed?
Payment is due at the time of your appointment. We accept card, venmo, cash, and check.
Do you accept tips?
Thank you- but I do not accept tips. If you would like to further support Azalea, leaving a Google review, buying a gift card, or purchasing from our online or in-clinic shop are all wonderful ways to support our micro business.
How do I make an appointment?
You can make an appointment online here.
How do I cancel my appointment?
We completely understand and acknowledge that life happens. However, your appointment time is reserved just for you. A late cancellation or missed visit leaves a hole in the practitioner's day that could have been filled by another patient.
As such, we require 24 hours notice for any cancellations or changes to your appointment. If you do not cancel or reschedule within the 24 hour window or you no show your appointment, you will be charged 100% of the appointment booked.
*Cancellations due to family, medical, or weather emergencies may be exempt from the cancellation policy. A late cancellation fee will be applied in the event of illness, such as cough, cold, flu, & COVID-19.
